Keep The Dog Far Hence - poetry for the cruelest month
I had a good life
I chased seagulls, lizards, and people
Just me and my Human.
Alone on our island
He was sick, but he recovered.
He named me Kemosabe
I was a friend.
After the treatment
He called me Kemo.
I guarded.
I comforted.
The supply plane came in
The buzzing drove me mad,
I bit the wheels, the wings as it landed
The last thing I tasted was the propeller...
The new puppy is cute
Who the hell needs cute?
Oh keep the dog far hence, that's friend to [My Human]
My spirit will never leave the cay.
My body feeds palm trees and orchids now,
But my spirit remains.
I forever guard.
I shall not rest.
You've made me cry, with a mixture of grief and puppy-induced pride. How brave, this furry soul, how wise... and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd the line about the "propeller" was expertly penned, and it digs very deep. ♥
A sad but still uplifting story!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I am touched by this innocent and faithful beautiful soul... beautiful words, such a wonderful response to the prompt xox

ReplyDeleteOh your poem, superb and graceful touched me. Love dogs!
ReplyDeleteOh this made me miss my first dog, Faye. I imagine she'd be aghast at the sloth of my current dog - she was super active until the day she died. I love both my fur babies, as different as they are.

ReplyDeleteRest in peace Kimosabe. Great tribute poem.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful tribute indeed, and I love that the sign appears to say: Private property of dogs.
